Collective Ownership of an Artwork for Marine Conservation
The Vision
Imagine owning a piece of a monumental artwork that embodies the raw power and fragility of nature—a life-sized great white shark sculpted from 5,000 stainless steel fishhooks. Each hook represents a share in the artwork, enabling 5,000 individuals worldwide to collectively own a masterpiece that champions marine conservation. Titled Saving Jaws, this artwork symbolizes the infinite value of nature and the urgent need to protect our oceans and its inhabitants. Through blockchain technology, shared ownership becomes accessible, transparent, and dynamic, with proceeds fueling great white conservation.
The Artwork
Saving Jaws is a breathtaking sculpture crafted by Vincent Mock, meticulously constructed from 5,000 stainless steel fishhooks. Each hook, a nod to the delicate balance between humanity and marine ecosystems, collectively form the awe-inspiring form of a great white shark—a keystone species vital to ocean health. Displayed in prestigious galleries, marine institutes, or virtual galleries, the artwork captivates audiences with its intricate craftsmanship and profound message: nature’s value is infinite, but its survival depends on collective action.
How It Works
Collective Ownership via NFTs:
Each of the 5,000 fishhooks is linked to a unique Non-Fungible Token (NFT) on a secure blockchain, representing a share in Saving Jaws.
Individuals can purchase an NFT for an accessible price of €500 – €1000, making art investment inclusive.
Ownership is recorded transparently on the Etherium blockchain, ensuring authenticity and traceability.
Dynamic Value and Trading
As public interest in Saving Jaws grows—driven by its artistic significance, conservation impact, and media exposure—the artwork’s value appreciates.
NFT owners can trade their shares on blockchain marketplaces, potentially profiting as demand increases. The artwork’s value is tied to society’s growing appreciation for nature, theoretically approaching infinity as humanity prioritizes environmental stewardship and starts to see the natural world as one with themselves.
Conservation Impact
80% funds marine conservation initiatives, with a focus on great white shark research and protection.
Partner organizations (e.g., Sea Shepherd, Mission Blue, Shark Trust, or regional marine research institutes) will use funds for projects like habitat restoration, anti-poaching patrols, and scientific studies to ensure healthy marine ecosystems.
Owners receive quarterly impact reports detailing how their investment has contributed to ocean health, such as square kilometers of protected marine areas or tagged sharks monitored.
Engagement and Community
NFT owners receive a digital artwork and a certificate of ownership. Everybody receives a tangible hook with a unique code represented in the digital version of the work. Also a unique screen print and access to an exclusive online platform featuring augmented reality (AR) views of Saving Jaws, artist talks, and conservation updates.
Physical exhibitions at global art fairs, aquariums, or museums allow owners to experience the artwork in person, fostering a sense of community.
A governance model (e.g., a decentralized autonomous organization, or DAO) lets owners vote on the artwork’s future, such as exhibition locations or additional conservation partnerships.
There will be an independent board of governance overseeing clarity of funding of the marine conservation objectives.
Why It Matters
