‘A New Paradigm’
Gold plated genuine white rhino skull with glass horns
85x37x102cm
The amount of work and team effort that goes into some artworks can be quite insane.. a big thank you to all involved. What an inspiration!
This series of works are an ode to the last megafauna and their wilderness. If we are capable of saving iconic species, we might actually be able to save ourselves.
Translation text on skull:
In harmony with the Tao,
the sky is clear and spacious,
the earth is solid and full,
all creatures flourish together,
content with the way they are,
endlessly repeating themselves,
endlessly renewed.
.
When man interferes with the Tao,
the sky becomes filthy,
the earth becomes depleted,
the equilibrium crumbles,
creatures become extinct.
.
The master views the parts with compassion,
because he understands the whole,
His constant practice is humility.
He doesn’t glitter like a jewel but lets himself be shaped by the Tao,
as rugged and common as stone.
.

Making the invisible visible: from a tiny radiolarian microorganism measuring just 0.1 mm to a sculpture 3½ metres in diameter. It remains truly inspiring what modern technology can achieve in producing an exact scan at this scale.
We are deeply grateful for the collaboration with the Geoscience Department of the University in Switzerland, and to Kadans Science Partner, Cepezed Architecten, @decorator_susanne, Frank Broos and ofcourse Eline Feenstra for making this work a reality.💚

Today is World Nature Conservation Day.
A shark made from thousands of steel fish hooks carries a contradiction at its core: an animal shaped by the very object used to catch it.
My sculptures often begin there, in the uneasy space between admiration and harm. We are fascinated by the natural world, yet our presence leaves traces in every ocean, habitat and ecosystem.
Conservation is not only about protecting distant landscapes or endangered species. It is also about reconsidering the materials we use, the systems we support and the relationship we choose to have with the living world around us.
Nature does not need to become more useful to deserve protection. Its existence is reason enough.

It is Shark Awareness Day today.
Here is some food for thought: sharks kill about 10 people a year worldwide. Humans kill roughly 100 million sharks a year.
The fear runs one direction. The damage runs the other.
What we should actually be afraid of is an ocean without sharks — no apex predator to keep everything else in balance.
Every sculpture in the Hooked on Life series is built from the same hooks used in that damage — reassembled into something that asks you to look at the animal, not the myth.

A great white shark in the making.
Steel hooks, welding sparks, careful hands, and a total obsession with the anatomy of a creature that has not changed since dinosaur times. The curve of the body, the tension in the jaw, the quiet force of the fins: every detail has to feel right before the shark can fully emerge.
Each hook becomes part of the body, each movement brings the form closer to presence.
Work in progress from the studio.

For Earth Day this year, we’re thinking about the quiet conversations between art and nature. In Vincent’s work, the ocean isn’t just an inspiration, it’s a collaborator. From the whale shark to the tiniest plankton, every curve, every material, every shadow carries the power of nature, now reimagined.
There’s something grounding about working with forms that already existed millions of years before us. A reminder that we’re just passing through, leaving either noise… or something worth keeping.
Today feels like a good day to choose the second.

Making a new shark is, in theory, nothing new.
Same materials, same process, same kind of focus that slowly takes over the day. There’s a rhythm to it that Vincent knows by heart by now. Position, weld, adjust, repeat again. Somewhere between routine and ritual.
And yet, every time, it ends up being different.
Maybe it’s the curve that turns out better than expected. Maybe it’s the way the light hits the surface of the mold. Maybe it’s just the mood of the day quietly sneaking into the piece.
It’s one of those processes that become meditations. You don’t really chase the final result. You just flow with the process and determine the end result =)
Familiar, but never quite the same.
A new shark in progress.

What a ride it has been to make a giant radiolarian sculpture from a 0,1 mm one celled organism. Many thanks to a great team of dedicated people for making the invisible visible ✨🙏🏽
Check it out at the new LPVS ULTRA building in the Utrecht Science Park. @kadanssciencepartner @unifribourg

Hanging a sculpture under water is quite a challenge but it worked out beautifully thanks to @manfred.bortoli. The piece is an ode to the critically endangered scalloped hammerhead shark which used to be so numerous and was part of the @amoexpo in Porto Cervo, Sardegna.
The 2.3 m work is made of approx 2200 industrial longline fishinghooks.

Installing a new lightwork - Heliodiscus Asteriscus discovered by Ernst Haeckel himself in 1887.
The original organism is < 0.2 mm, this sculpture is 60cm diameter. By scanning the original one celled plankton and radically enlarging it, this series of works aims to capture the wonders of the underwater microworld by making the invisible visible.
