Plankton plays a vital role in the balance of life on earth by forming the basis of the food web and producing most of our oxygen. Due to temperature rises and ocean acidification the basis of our ecosystems are under threat. In order to tell a story of the unseen mirco organisms in our oceans the artist has created enlarged sculptures of planktonic life.

For this work Mock has had the unique opportunity to work together with the Geo Sciences department of the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. To make this series of sculptures he was able to be aided by scientists and use a prototype nano-ct scanner. The sculpture of a foraminifera presented here is animated and later 3D printed from an organism which in real life measures no more than 0,1mm in size
